Changing of the Guard...

I, like millions of others had the opportunity to watch the inauguration of President Obama on Tuesday. I must confess this was the first inauguration that I have taken the time to watch and I loved it. I loved all the pomp and ceremony of one president leaving and another taking the helm. I got a little emotional as President Obama was sworn in and gave his speech. For me this election year has been full of ups and downs. Justin was very interested in the whole process
even though he isn't old enough to vote. (Grandpa Syme would be so proud) I missed my Grandpa Syme this year. Oh, the debates we could have had. I wonder if there would have been mixed feelings for him, having the Democrats back in office but that Democrat being African-American. I like to think that he would have been excited about the changes. What a feeling of pride, patriotism, hope and change there is in the nation. I wasn't around when President Kennedy was sworn in but from talking with those who were around during that time that same feeling was felt on Tuesday was felt by many when President Kennedy was sworn in. I am excited about the new changes in the White House. I hope that no matter who you voted for or support that we will all be able to get behind the new president and make the changes that we need to in our lives and for our country so that as President Obama said in his inaugural speech, " that our children will know that we didn't give up when times got tough."

Lisa! I'm so glad we got to have the TV in the office. I'm so glad none of us had to miss the inauguration. I teared up too. :) Change is good!

Lisa, I am with you! I wept during the invocation- I laughed when Sasha gave him her big "thumbs up" and how about that hat Ms. Franklin wore? Brink would probably knock her off to get her hands on it!! I am so excited and hopeful for the future. I also feel so humbled to be fortunate enough to see such progress in our nation uniting!

Lisa,
I must confess, I was pleasantly suprised to read this blog! We really need to talk more. I was under the (obviously mistaken) assumption you would have preferred McCain. Shame on me! I am an Obama supporter since the day he announced his candidacy, and was at school during the inauguration. We were let out of Biology class to go to watch the inauguration in the student union. It was incredible moment for us all. Since my university is hailed as the most diverse in the midwest, we shed tears, hugged and were very proud to be Americans. I, too, have great hope for this great nation of ours!

Much love,
Julie
