Changing of the Guard...

I, like millions of others had the opportunity to watch the inauguration of President Obama on Tuesday. I must confess this was the first inauguration that I have taken the time to watch and I loved it. I loved all the pomp and ceremony of one president leaving and another taking the helm. I got a little emotional as President Obama was sworn in and gave his speech. For me this election year has been full of ups and downs. Justin was very interested in the whole process
even though he isn't old enough to vote. (Grandpa Syme would be so proud) I missed my Grandpa Syme this year. Oh, the debates we could have had. I wonder if there would have been mixed feelings for him, having the Democrats back in office but that Democrat being African-American. I like to think that he would have been excited about the changes. What a feeling of pride, patriotism, hope and change there is in the nation. I wasn't around when President Kennedy was sworn in but from talking with those who were around during that time that same feeling was felt on Tuesday was felt by many when President Kennedy was sworn in. I am excited about the new changes in the White House. I hope that no matter who you voted for or support that we will all be able to get behind the new president and make the changes that we need to in our lives and for our country so that as President Obama said in his inaugural speech, " that our children will know that we didn't give up when times got tough."

It's 2009....

We had a pretty uneventful holiday season....no sick dogs, the cars all were running just like they should and Intermountain Healthcare didn't open a new hospital so as far as I was concerned life was good. We had our hectic moments but over all it was prettty relaxing. It is now a new year, a new beginning and time for those new year's resolutions. I don't know about you but I am one of those that always think that this will be the year that I may actually keep one of the many resolutions that I make on January 1st. For example...I am going to lose weight, that has been top of my list for many years, stop biting my fingernails was one also but I guess I sort of kept that one by having acrylic nails put on, organize my craft room, finish all the scrapbooking, learn to belly dance or ballroom dance, spend more quality time with the boys and Michael, make better use of my spare time, stay caught up on my journal and laundry, have a better attitude, make healthier choices in regards to my eating habits and the list goes on indefinitely. I usually start out strong in January but by the middle of February all bets are off. I am back to my old habits. But this year I have decided to try something different. My sister gave me a plaque this year that says..."Be true to who you are." Maybe that is what we need to do rather than set ourselves up for failure with countless resolutions is just to "be true to who you are. Kinda corny, I know. But I guess if all else fails, I will probably try to keep at least one of the resolutions that I make..belly dancing might be fun to try. Wish me luck.
